Start with the MOQ conversation, not the price conversation
Every buyer wants to talk price first. I get it — margins in this category are thin and everyone’s chasing the lowest landed cost. But the smarter opening question is MOQ. A factory that can do 500 units for a new buyer is telling you something about their production flexibility. A factory that insists on 5,000 units minimum, no exceptions, for a first order is either running large-batch lines that don’t like small runs, or they’re not really set up for a real partnership yet — they’re set up for one-off transactions.
For wholesale earbuds specifically, MOQ flexibility matters more than in most electronics categories because buyers in this space are testing SKUs constantly. This matters for wholesale earbuds buyers because it directly affects lead time and your ability to make last-minute spec changes. A factory that has to import components from outside the region will always be slower to pivot than one sitting inside the PRD ecosystem.
